                      Children's Programs

 Preschool/Nursery (PSN)

HHB operates a full-day child care center for children of homeless families living in the Huntington Station shelter programs. Children are served from the age of one month up to four years old.  Children benefit from the consistent, supportive environment that is provided by the PSN teaching staff.  Services provided are aimed at enhancing emotional, social and academic development and include:

  • Individual Education Plans

  • Development of motor, language and social skills

  • Early detection of developmental delays

  • Recreational trips

The PSN not only provides parents with childcare, allowing them to pursue educational and vocational goals, but also provides them with parenting training and support.

Homework Help/Library

At HHB's Huntington Station site  a library has been assembled from donated books and computers. This is where the Homework Help program operates during the school year  from Monday through Thursday. School-aged children from HHB's emergency shelters  work with volunteers from the community to complete their homework assignments, learn to use computers and/or play educational games. In addition, volunteers are available to assist adults to study for their GED, or to improve their English.
