      The Village Program

The Village Program provides supported, permanent housing for low-income persons with HIV/AIDS.  Both individuals and families are served. Residences range in size from one  bedroom apartments to a five-bedroom house. All units are located in Suffolk County, New York. Program fees are based on either the Public Assistance rate or 30% of the individual/family's adjusted gross income.

Services include:

  • Housing case management
  • Life skill development
  • Information and referral
  • Emergency food and supplies
  • Crisis intervention
  • Educational/vocational assistance
  • Transportation 
    ( for residents only)

Admission Criteria

Admission criteria varies slightly, dependent on the unit that is available. Applicants must 

  • Have a diagnosis of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) or related diseases

  • Meet HUD guidelines for low or very low income

  • Have proof of homelessness/imminent homelessness

In addition, the prospective resident should:

  • Have an understanding of the Village Program, its goals, and be motivated to succeed in the program.  The decision to join must be a voluntary one.

  • Have the potential for independent living in the community.

  • Have a willingness to work cooperatively with agency staff as scheduled.

  • Have school-aged children enrolled in school in accordance with New York State law.

  • Be motivated to maintain the physical environment in which s/he lives.

  • Be motivated to maintain sobriety and a drug free environment.
