Qualifications
Applicants are assessed for employment
based on three important criteria: education, experience and
personal qualities.
Education: We
look for applicants with an associate's or bachelor's degree in
human services. However, for some positions we will accept a high
school diploma if the applicant has related humans services
experience. We also welcome college students who are studying
human services and mature adults who are changing careers
Experience: Experience
helping people, whether paid or volunteer, will strengthen your
application. Some examples include college resident advisor, home
health care aid, working/volunteering in a nursing home, residence
for developmentally disabled, crisis hotlines, etc. Many other
kinds of experience, such as retail or restaurant work, are good
for developing the necessary interpersonal and organizational
skills we seek.
Personal Qualities: We
seek persons who are capable of developing professional relationships
with our residents and exercising good judgment. Responsibility
and flexibility are also important qualities that we look
for.
